Bombuj is a guide to 184 Czech and Slovak films, made between 1950 and 2026 and chosen for the whole household. Each film page gives the story, year, director and cast, and a Watch now button that leads to the official services carrying the film in your country.

Which film should I watch first?

Start with Kolya, Cosy Dens or My Sweet Little Village. The first-month plan in the guide suggests an order for eight films.

Is the catalogue suitable for families?

Yes. Every film was screened by hand, and the selection keeps to comedies, village stories, musicals, family films and fairy tales. A few serious films are best for older teenagers and adults, as the guide explains.

What is the Czechoslovak New Wave?

It is the name given to the films made by a group of young directors between about 1963 and 1969, among them Miloš Forman, Jiří Menzel and Věra Chytilová. Thirty films from that decade have a list of their own.

Are there Slovak films?

Yes. Twenty-five films are in Slovak, from Katka in 1950 to The Teacher and Nepela.

Are the films subtitled in English?

The classics and most recent films are. For the popular comedies of the 1970s and 1980s, check the languages listed by each service.
